Recounting the events of Saturday, 23 June

Wang_ning's back for the summer, so we decided to do something cool, just the 4 of us (wn, yu_xian, lin_us, myself), kind of like a stanford gathering. Then on friday, by some stroke of luck cong_lin smsed that he was back from harvard and he and his (american) friends were going to be kbox-ing and visiting sentosa on saturday, and linus decided that we should all hang out together as one big group.

So we went to clementi (late, as usual) and i was pleasantly surprised that cong lin also invited huang_sha and her friend laura. huang_sha i haven't talked to since jc, so it was really nice catching up with her, and we sang this duet thing 梁山伯与茱丽叶 together. By sang, i really mean screwing-the-song-up-really-badly-while-attempting-to-decipher-the-chinese-characters. So anyway, the total headcount was: 4 stanford kids, cong_lin, li_sa, wil and ra_chel (all from harvard) and huang_sha and lau_ra. Ra_chel was the only non-asian person there, so we sang lots of english songs too, like maroon 5 and lemon tree and dancing queen. And she wanted to sing la bamba too because she speaks spanish. i love ra_chel, she's so funny and full of personality and she likes my shirt. she's only 21 and she has already graduated from college! She's taking a year off to go to culinary school in mexico, before heading off to penn to do medicine, how cool is that!

At 5ish, huang_sha and lau_ra had to leave, the rest of us took a train down to Harborfront, and then we decided to be touristy and bought cable car tickets to Sentosa. Flashing your pink i/c gets you a 3 dollar discount so on average, we paid 11 dollars each.

At Sentosa we had dinner at Trapizza, this alfresco style pizza place along Siloso beach. Dinner was a pleasant affair, except li_sa didnt really want to touch her water because of some comment i made about toilet water. Anyway, we just sat there eating our carbonaras and pastas and pizzas while watching the sky darken.

After dinner, (it was really dark by then), we strolled down to the beach barefoot and all and some of us decided to go get our ankles wet. That is obviously a big mistake, because people never ever only get their ankles wet and everyone knows that eventually someone will just go "haiya the water is so warm and inviting lets go swimming" So we all stripped down to our underwears (yay boxers) and decided to swim to the island which was supposed to be the southernmost island of continental asia except it is not, because the actual southernmost island is actually the island adjacent to the one we thought was the southermost island of continental asia. Wang_ning, ra_chel and linus actually made it to the other side, but li_sa freaked out like a third of the way and so i swam with her back to shore. Its really purely psychological, because she's quite a good swimmer, but we ended up just swimming along the coastline while waiting for the rest to get back. By the way, it is really quite stupid to swim in the open sea at night after a full meal, and all the drowning stories that we read about in the papers probably go something like that.

THen we got back to shore to dry off, except li_sa didn't want to let me use her skirt as a towel i have no idea why. then we took the cable car back to harborfront, strolled around vivocity a bit, and took separate cabs home.

Summer is awesome because people start coming back from overseas and I get to see everyone again. Anand just returned from Boston, and we spent friday night over at his place playing table-tennis and squash and poker. And eating authentic home-made Indian food (all vegetarian) for dinner/supper, and talking to Anand's sister about french SATs. And talking to his dad about the United States in general, which was quite entertaining because he is completely funny with the kind of wry wit you'd expect from a software engineer. On Saturday evening, we had dinner at Modesto's at Vivo. Les lie came along too, and after that we drove to Labrador park on whim. (cough)

I have so many things that I need to buy so if you're going shopping ask me out and my answer will invariably be yes.

I'm back in this little corner of cyberspace :O Seeing pam on facebook, it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks that I am supposed to be bringing bodies over to Japan to visit her, a task which I keep putting off until I finally FORGOT about it. SHIT never ask me to plan anything I will promptly proceed to fuck it up like I did with vietnam.

In conclusion, I think I should get myself a chihuahua because they are so DAMN ADORABLE. (and affectionate!)

Did you know that if the spectrum of a hermitian operator is continuous, the eigenfunctions are not in Hilbert space and are not normalizable; nevertherless, the eigenfunctions with real eigenvalues are Dirac orthonormalizable and complete?

Me neither.

Today I went shopping with my brother. While we were paying for our stuff at FOX, the shopgirl person starting talking to us. Being the friendly person that I am, I told her that I thought the badges she had pinned on were really nice. Then she asked me which one I particularly liked, and I pointed out one which said something cool which I can't really remember now. She went on to unpin the badge and placed it in my shopping bag with the other stuff I paid for. How cute. I will talk to all shop people now.

So anyway, on the train ride home, I was pondering over the possibility of inducing something to happen just by simply thinking about it, or willing it to happen. So I started thinking really hard about something (I'm wonky that way) and when it didn't happen after all that effort, I got really disappointed and riled. I felt like the whole universe was conspiring against me. But while I was wallowing in this cesspool of self-pity, that something suddenly happened, and it was rather surprising and gave me quite a shot of euphoria.

Recap: This week I had a nice lunch with hw ee (ying) and ch iara. I found a fellow PEARLS BEFORE SWINE lover in hw ee! Anyway, I had a great time cos we had red tea ice jelly and lexus biscuits to go with our amusing conversation. I also managed to catch MUSIC AND LYRICS with hw ee (juin) which is retarded (the show, not the girl) but I like it very much anyway. I also confirmed the notion that hw ee is a klutz who leads people in circles (literally). And she talks really fast but thats good cos I found out alot of stuff. Other stuff this week: I caught NO REGRETS: A TRIBUTE TO EDITH PIAF! This was at the DBS arts center, and I went with the RJC french connection. Hossan leong is really entertaining.

Les lie has punctuality issues and needs therapy. I think he has made me wait over 10 hours for him this year.

Situational Irony features quite strongly in my life, I realise.

Today, we the gang went for astro to pitch the good idea that is PHAN TIET. It doesn't sound like much, but the photos of the place which le slie presented looked really impressive and enticing (and photoshopped). I feel quite bad for we ilin that things didn't exactly go swimmingly, but at least the response we got was rather decent.

Supper at thompson afterwards was probably the best thing that happened all week. Yux ian mentioned that he didn't believe in asking for what he wants. After we were done mulling over the wisdom of his rather counterintuitive saying, Les lie asked if that actually allows him to attain what he desires, to which he replied, "no, of course not". Thats some pretty sage advice.

Seriously, I need to be more responsible. Bye!

Yesterday I went to Sentosa with p am and sw and we acted all touristy. Turns out it was the 2nd last night they're having the musical fountain show (surprise, surprise). However, being the punctual souls that we are, we came 10 minutes late and missed the damn thing anyway. Then I went to Wala; J&R weren't playing though, but we managed to get the band to play some jason mraz cover anyway. Then I went home. The end.
